Interim CEO named for YMCA of Central New York

Ed Kelley

Edwin J. Kelley, Jr. has been named interim CEO of the YMCA of Central New York. Kelley will serve in this role until the search for a permanent CEO has been completed.

A long-time Y member and volunteer, Kelley has served as a board member for the Y in a variety of roles since the 1980s and was board president from 1993 to 1995. Kelley was also instrumental in the fundraising efforts that led to the construction of the Hal Welsh East Area Family YMCA in 2004.

“We are fortunate to have Ed assume this role during this transition and appreciative that he is donating his time and fulfilling these consequential responsibilities on a pro bono basis,” said Fran Nichols, Chief Volunteer Officer and Chairman of the Metro Board of Directors.

Kelley, retired from Bond, Schoeneck & King, will move into the role of overseeing the day-to-day operations of the YMCA of Central New York, taking on the responsibilities of previous CEO, Mike Brown, who has stepped down to focus on his family following the loss of his wife after a prolonged illness. At the YMCA of Central New York, Kelley will oversee operations for seven branches in the greater Syracuse area.

“This Y has done so much for me over my lifetime - from Saturday mornings at the Downtown Y as a youth and as a camper and counselor at Camp Tousey during high school and college,” said Kelley. “I welcome the opportunity to work with the Y members and staff to help our Y continue to serve all of Central New York during this challenging time for our community.”
