FAQs About Our Training & Certification Programs
How long does it take to become a lifeguard?
Not long! Our Red Cross lifeguard training program can be completed in just a few days. During this time, you'll learn and practice the skills that a lifeguard needs before completing an assessment to earn your certification.
How hard is it to get lifeguard certified?
Being a lifeguard requires swimming ability, endurance, and being able to perform under pressure. This course can prove challenging but driven individuals can normally rise to this challenge and achieve certification.
Is CPR certification the same as first aid?
No, these are actually separate certifications. CPR focuses on breathing and cardiac emergencies, while first aid covers a broader range of injuries like cuts, burns, and sprains. There are training courses to help you attain both certifications at the YMCA of Central New York.
