National Nutrition Month®
Contrary to popular belief, healthful eating doesn’t have to be overwhelming!
Choosing nutritious foods and getting enough physical activity can make a significant difference in your health. Studies have also shown it can boost your immune system.
Each March, the Academy focuses attention on healthful eating through National Nutrition Month®. This year’s theme, ”Eat Right, Bite by Bite”, promotes eating a variety of nutritious foods every day, planning and creating healthful meals each week and the value of consulting a registered dietitian.
Developing healthful eating habits does not mean undertaking drastic lifestyle changes. Small goals and changes can have a cumulative, healthful effect. Every little bit is a step in the right direction!
Start by eating a variety of nutritious foods every day, from all the food groups. Take time to read Nutrition Facts labels, too.
Plan your meals each week. Shop for healthful foods at the grocery store and make healthy choices when dining out or traveling. You can prepare tasty, nutritious meals at home and get your entire family involved in the kitchen! Try new foods and flavors.
You can get personalized nutrition advice to help set and achieve your goals by consulting with a Registered Dietitian. The Hal Welsh East Area Family YMCA’s Registered Dietitian, Traci McIntosh, can help you develop an individualized eating plan with simple steps that can help meet your health goals. These simple steps are developed to become lifelong habits. Traci is available to provide medical nutrition therapy as well to help individuals manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension.
