Today, we reflect on the terrible acts of terrorism committed yesterday at our nation’s Capitol building. The YMCA of Central New York condemns the violence that was perpetrated by those who would seek to undermine our government. We think of all the children who have participated in our Youth and Government program and what a privilege it has been for them (and our staff and volunteers) to debate democratically in the very chairs where our leaders sit. Our Y will continue to work every day to create safe, welcoming spaces, both physically and virtually, for ALL to come together to strengthen our community.
We join with this message shared by the YMCA of the USA, and like our Y Movement, will always be committed to preserving and strengthening the democracy upon which our nation is founded, and we stand united with those who share that commitment.
