The YMCA of Central New York is launching its annual fundraising campaign on April 21, 2021 to help ensure that everyone in Central New York has access to vital community programs and resources – especially during these challenging times.
Every year, the YMCA of Central New York works to respond to the needs of the community and this past year has been no different. Since the country began seeing the effects of COVID-19 in 2020, the Y mobilized to provide the essential services our community needed.
Since last March, the Y has provided safe and fun summers to over 2000 children in day camps, provided safe housing for 130 men and senior residents, conducted hundreds of wellness outreach calls to seniors and members in need, modified fitness centers to ensure members feel safe while maintaining their healthy routines, and created virtual programming in wellness, arts, and more to provide resources and connection safely at home.
"Our community has faced unprecedented challenges over the past year," said Bertram L. Lawson II, President and CEO of the YMCA of Central New York. "However, we've also seen tremendous support by Y members, supporters, staff and partners assisting others in this trying time. The Y is playing a major role in partnership with others to uplift communities through our programs and services. We need your support to continue impact people and help our community grow and thrive. We are thankful and grateful for your support of the Y."
This year, the YMCA of Central New York hopes to raise $434,000 through this community campaign to support our wide range of programs for families, children, and seniors. 25% of the Y’s membership received financial assistance to access the programs and services in 2020.
A virtual kickoff event for campaigners will take place on April 21st at 5pm.
