The YMCA of Central New York and SOS (Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists) are pleased to announce a weekly virtual speaker series in March 2021, featuring expert speakers speaking on a range of subjects including treatment options for hip and knee arthritis, bone health and osteoporosis, the difference between bunions and big toe arthritis, and staying active and injury-free this spring.
Speakers include Dr. Kevin Kopko, MD; Stacy Griffith, PT; Lisa Mahon, PA; Dr. Naven Duggal, MD; and Dr. Todd Battaglia, MD.
Lecture will take place at 5pm on Zoom on Wednesday, March 3; Tuesday, March 9; Thursday March 18; and Thursday, March 25. Please see below for the full schedule, featuring a brief description of each event and a registration link. Please register for each event you are interested in attending.

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF), about 54 million Americans have osteoporosis and low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for osteoporosis. Studies suggest that approximately one in two women and up to one in four men age 50 and older will break a bone due to osteoporosis. Series Bios
Dr. Kevin Kopko is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with SOS specializing in joint replacement surgery. He earned his medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine and completed an orthopedic residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY. Dr. Kopko completed a fellowship in joint replacement surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, part of the Harvard combined orthopedic surgery program, in Boston, MA. Dr. Kopko is skilled in primary and revision joint replacements of the hip and knee, fracture care, orthopedic trauma surgery, and nonoperative management of osteoarthritis.
Stacy Griffith, PT, Cert. MDT is the coordinator of Total Joint Program for SOS Orthopedic and Sports Therapy. Stacy is a graduate of both Daemen College and SUNY Potsdam and has advanced certification in McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy of the Spine.
Lisa Mahon is a Physician Assistant at SOS with a focus on total joint replacements and hip and knee problems. She also has a strong interest in diagnosing and treating people with osteopenia, osteoporosis, and Vitamin D deficiency. She earned both a B.S. and her M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies at Le Moyne College. She is licensed as a Physician Assistant by the University of the State of New York, Education Department, Office of Professions, and is board certified by the NCCPA.
Dr. Naven Duggal is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with SOS specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle problems. He has a particular interest in treating all types of adult and adolescent foot and ankle injuries as well as the correction of deformities involving the foot, ankle and knee. Prior to joining Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists, Dr. Duggal was the Chief of the Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Service at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. His research in biomechanics was performed at the Center for Advanced Orthopaedic Studies, Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Todd Battaglia is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with SOS specializing in the treatment of sports injuries of all types, with a particular focus on arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee. This includes the treatment of rotator cuff and instability problems of the shoulder, as well as the treatment of ligament, cartilage, and meniscal injuries of the knee. Dr Battaglia is the lead orthopedist for the Syracuse University football team, a member of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team physician pool, and team physician for numerous area colleges and high schools.
