YMCA Power Scholars Academy™
Statistics show that a large number of children from low-income environments reach kindergarten unprepared and that they continue to fall behind in school without proper interventions. This achievement and opportunity gap culminates in low high school graduation and college attainment rates, limited job prospects, and a negative economic impact for millions of youth as they enter adulthood.
The Y, a longtime leader in youth development, is working to improve the educational readiness, engagement and outcomes for the country’s children, in partnership with BellXcel and Syracuse City Parks and Recreation Department. The Power Scholars AcademyTM programs, built on BellXcel's evidence-based model, serve more than 4,600 kids who attend high-poverty schools nationwide.
We are planning for an amazing fun-filled summer that will provide your child with great academic and enrichment experiences. In order to prioritize the health and safety of our children, families, and staff, we will be operating our program in person at Kirk Park and Schiller Park at a limited capacity this summer. We are also offering a virtual option if that is more conducive to the needs of your family. Our virtual scholars will have the option of meeting with a teacher once a week at the park in person by appointment. We are looking forward to working with you this summer to create an amazing experience for your child.
